Outdoor Event Setup Singapore – Decathlon Sports Fest 2026

Planning an outdoor event setup in Singapore involves more than bringing equipment to site. Tentage, staging, activity areas and supporting infrastructure need to work together within the available space, while installation schedules often have to accommodate the normal operations of the venue.
For Decathlon Sports Fest 2026, Kian Lee Seng helped transform the outdoor carpark at Decathlon Singapore Lab in Kallang into a large-scale sports festival venue. Our scope included tentage, stage, backdrop and PVC banner backdrop installation, cooling solutions, together with decorative fabric streamers across the event space.
Months of Planning, Followed by a Tight Setup Window
Planning for Decathlon Sports Fest 2026 began months ahead of the event. The event layout and infrastructure requirements were carefully coordinated around the numerous sporting activities that would eventually occupy the site.
The venue, however, remained an operational public carpark until shortly before the festival, leaving only a limited window for the physical setup.
When our team moved in to begin installation, parts of the carpark were still occupied by vehicles remaining from activities over the National Day weekend, temporarily limiting access to sections of the planned event area.
Rather than holding up the entire installation, our team adapted the work sequence and proceeded with whatever could be completed in the available areas while Decathlon coordinated the necessary arrangements with the carpark operator.
As more of the site became accessible, our crews progressively moved into the remaining areas. Over the next couple of days, we completed our infrastructure works and handed the site over to Decathlon and the other event partners for their respective installations and final preparations.
By the time the festival opened to visitors, the working carpark had been transformed into a vibrant outdoor venue ready for two full days of sporting activities.
About Decathlon Sports Fest 2026
Decathlon Sports Fest 2026 was held on 15 and 16 August 2026 at Decathlon Singapore Lab in Kallang. The two-day festival transformed approximately 5,000 sqm of carpark space into a large outdoor sports venue where visitors could discover and try more than 30 different sports.
The festival was designed for participants across different ages, experience levels and abilities, with activities ranging from athletics, climbing and racket sports to kayaking, ice hockey and obstacle activities.
Together with food and beverage offerings, family activities and spaces for visitors to gather, the event created a lively environment centred around sport, movement and discovery.
Tentage for a Large Outdoor Sports Event
With activities distributed throughout the carpark, tentage formed an important part of the physical event infrastructure.
Rather than creating a single continuous sheltered space, different tent configurations were positioned around the site according to the requirements of the individual zones. This provided shelter while retaining the open areas needed for sporting activities and visitor circulation.
For outdoor events, tentage can serve many purposes beyond weather protection. Depending on the programme, sheltered areas can accommodate registration counters, activity stations, refreshments, equipment, organisers, participants and rest areas.
The layout therefore needs to be considered together with the activities taking place around it, rather than treating tentage as an isolated part of the setup.
To further improve comfort throughout the outdoor venue, Kian Lee Seng also supplied industrial mobile fans and mist fans at selected areas. The high-volume airflow helped keep air moving beneath the tentage, while mist fans provided additional cooling for visitors and participants during the warm daytime hours. Together with the tentage and partial shade provided by the overhead fabric streamers, these cooling solutions helped create more comfortable spaces for people to rest and take a break between activities.
Stage and PVC Banner Backdrop Installation
A stage provided a central area within the festival for announcements, presentations and programme activities.
Kian Lee Seng supplied and installed the stage and backdrop structure, together with the installation of the large-format PVC banner artwork provided for the event.
For a large outdoor venue, a stage and branded backdrop also provide an important visual focal point, helping visitors identify the main programme area among the numerous activities taking place throughout the site.
Careful backdrop installation is particularly important for large-format PVC prints. The supporting structure, positioning and tensioning of the banner all contribute to achieving a clean and presentable finished backdrop.
Adding Colour and Movement with Fabric Streamers

One of the more distinctive elements of this year’s setup was the use of blue and white fabric streamers across the carpark.
Long sections of fabric were suspended overhead between the structures, creating sweeping lines across what would otherwise have been a large open asphalt area.
The streamers introduced colour and movement as the fabric fluttered in the wind, helping visually connect different sections of the venue and creating a more energetic atmosphere appropriate for a sports festival.
The overhead fabric streamers also provided a practical benefit by offering partial shade from direct sunlight across sections of the open carpark. While not intended as a substitute for proper shelter, the suspended fabric helped reduce direct sun exposure while adding colour, movement and visual character to the event space.
It was a relatively simple addition compared with the larger infrastructure works, but it made a significant difference to how the space looked and felt.
From Infrastructure Setup to Event Handover
Completing our installation was only one stage in preparing the venue.
Once the tentage, stage, backdrop and decorative elements were ready, the site was handed over to Decathlon and the other event partners. They could then proceed with sporting equipment, activity stations, signage and the many other elements required for the festival.
This sequencing is particularly important for large events involving multiple suppliers. Infrastructure works need to be completed efficiently so that the teams coming afterwards have sufficient access and time to carry out their own preparations.
The transformation therefore happened progressively: from an operational public carpark, to an infrastructure worksite, and finally to a completed sports festival ready to receive visitors.
Outdoor Event Setup for Sports Days and Team Building
While Decathlon Sports Fest 2026 was a large public sports festival, the same approach can be adapted to events of many different sizes.
Kian Lee Seng can support corporate sports days, team-building activities, school sports events, family days, community programmes, outdoor carnivals and recreational events with infrastructure planned around the activities taking place.
A typical setup might combine tentage for activity and rest areas with a stage for briefings, announcements and prize presentations. Tables and chairs can support registration, refreshments and dining, while cooling equipment can improve comfort in sheltered areas.
Where required, we can also provide generators, temporary electrical distribution, switchboards, cabling and lighting to support the equipment and activities throughout the venue.
The exact combination depends on the site, number of participants and event programme.
Planning the Infrastructure Around Your Event
Every outdoor event uses its space differently.
A company sports day might require several activity stations surrounding a central gathering area. A team-building programme may divide participants into groups rotating between different zones. A larger festival may involve numerous operators, food stalls, sporting activities and supporting services occupying the same site.
Good event infrastructure therefore starts with understanding how the venue will actually be used.
Access routes, participant movement, activity areas, shelter, staging, electrical requirements and the installation schedule all need to be considered before equipment arrives on site.
For Decathlon Sports Fest 2026, months of preparation helped our team respond when actual site conditions required the installation sequence to change. Working progressively across the available areas allowed the project to continue while access issues were being resolved.
